June has started with rain rain rain, and gas prices skyrocketing through the roof, as it is everywhere else in the world.  We get an increase every Sunday morning just like everyone else , so just roll with it on your travels, it has affected everything in the area especially here because everything is brought in.  Perhaps it will make the local farmers think a little more about perhaps growing fresh produce here.  It just makes us get smarter about what we're doing, turn off fans, cook efficiently when we use electricity, (my electric bill doubled!) and pay attention to that carbon imprint we are leaving on the Earth.  June is coming in with a lot of rain, bring your umbrella, bring your raincoat, but that just means having a nice steamy cup of Miramundo Coffee is even better.  The mountains are beautiful in the morning full of mist, and you really need a sweater, I have been walking early in the a.m. and the air feels wonderful and smells so clean.  Everything has grown into a lush green, and this seems to be just the beginning, rainy season will go on into October, but don't think that it rains all the time, it rains in the evenings, and not during the day.  You can go about your business and get your tours in to the Ruins, Sepulturas, Casa K'inich, the Museum, the Sculpture Museum.  There is so much to see here, a rich culture from the past is reflected throughout this village.  It's not just Maya this and Maya that, it's a true feeling that there was once an incredible dynasty here.  I recently had the pleasure to visit with Dr. Dorie Reents-Budet who helps museums in the United States.  She was here because she is helping put together a handbook on the sculptures around Copan.  This handbook will be available through the Copan Association Gift Shop.  It describes the sculptures throughout the park and what they mean and who built them, what a history we are blessed with in this area!  At any rate, come by the shop, we have updated a little and are even thinking about an expansion.  Try some of our chocolate brownies or sesame seed bagels with creme cheese and sliced tomatoes.  We are gearing up for a busy summer, by the way, all planes are being routed through San Pedro Sula, there is construction going on at the Tegucigalpa airport and it is closed until September.  But that makes it easier to get here, hop on a bus and you are here in three hours or so.  The price of diesel and gas is affecting the price to tickets so try not to be surprised at a price increase, it's still less expensive than many modes of travel.   If you need updates or have questions, just drop me a line, I really enjoy hearing from people and try to answer email daily.  If you don't get here this summer, plan on next year, Welcome to Copan, wer'e so glad you're here!
